Potts Spine / Bone & Spine Tuberculosis
Pott’s spine, also known as spinal tuberculosis, is a form of tuberculosis that affects the vertebrae and intervertebral discs of the spine. It is caused by the spread of Mycobacterium tuberculosis to the spinal bones, leading to pain, stiffness, deformity, and in severe cases, neurological deficits due to spinal cord compression.
Our center offers a comprehensive Pott’s spine management program that combines accurate diagnosis, effective medical and surgical treatment, and rehabilitation to restore function and improve quality of life.
Our Approach
Managing Pott’s spine requires a coordinated approach that focuses on:
Early diagnosis through clinical evaluation, imaging, and laboratory investigations
Effective treatment to eradicate infection and prevent further damage
Addressing spinal stability and neurological function
Rehabilitation to regain mobility and strength
Symptoms We Manage
Our program addresses a wide range of Pott’s spine symptoms, including:
Persistent back pain and stiffness
Progressive spinal deformity
Weakness or numbness in the limbs
Difficulty walking or standing
Loss of bladder or bowel control in advanced cases
General symptoms such as fever, night sweats, and weight loss
Treatment Options
Medical Management
Anti-tubercular therapy (ATT) to eliminate the infection
Pain control and anti-inflammatory medications
Regular monitoring of treatment response through imaging and lab tests
Surgical Management
Indicated for cases with spinal instability, severe deformity, or neurological compromise
Procedures may include decompression, spinal stabilization, or reconstruction
Minimally invasive spinal surgery in selected cases
